Occupational Certification

• Eligibility for registration as a Registered Nurse in the Extended Class (Nurse Practitioner) in a province or territory of Canada.

Education

• Graduation with a Master’s degree in Nursing from a recognized post-secondary institution* or graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution* in Nurse Practitioner Program with successful completion of approved training in Primary Care, All Ages specialization or some other specialty relevant to the position.
  
  *Recognized post-secondary institution: Public or private institution that has been given authority to grant degrees, diplomas, and other credentials by a public or private act of a provincial/territorial legislature or through a government-mandated quality assurance mechanism. For greater certainty, also included are institutions authorized to grant specific academic credentials for specific academic programs.
  
  
• Candidates with foreign credentials must provide proof of Canadian equivalency. Consult the Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials or Alliance of Credential Evaluation Services of Canada (ACESC).

Essential Experience

• Recent* and Significant** experience providing Community Health or Primary Care nursing services in one or more of the following areas:
  • Community Health (Public Health and Home and Community Care)
  • Primary Care
  • Urgent or Emergency Care
  • Acute or Intensive Care

*Recent is defined as within the last five years

**Significant is defined as at least two years’ experience with the candidate performing complex activities related to this task

Conditions of Employment

• Reliability Status Security Clearance
• Valid driver's license or personal mobility to a degree normally associated with the possession of a driver's license
• Medical Clearance
  • PRE-PLACEMENT: Category 1 health evaluation + COVID-19 self-screening questionnaire
  • PERIODIC: Category 3 health evaluation according to the schedule outlined in the Occupational Health Evaluation Standard for “First Nations and Inuit Health Branch Nurses Assigned to Isolated Posts in Northern First Nations Communities” 
  • For persons proposed for relocation to an isolated post/remote location and who have dependents: a valid Category 1 medical clearance for their dependent(s) in accordance with section 4.2 of the Isolated Post and Government Housing Directive and Appendix A of the Occupational Health Evaluation Standard Schedule (http://www.njc-cnm.gc.ca/directive/index.php?hl=1&lang=eng&merge=3&did=4&vid=12&pv=1 ) 
  • For persons proposed for relocation to an isolated post/remote location and who have dependents: consent to their dependent(s) to undertake a Category 1 periodic health evaluation in accordance with Appendix A of the Occupational Health Evaluation Standard Schedule (https://www.tbs-sct.gc.ca/pol/(S(5xos1g45ufdaaz45lxatyqms))/doc-eng.aspx?id=32632&section=html)
• Willingness and ability to travel in small aircraft, off road vehicles and by boat in varied weather conditions to communities in remote and isolated areas
• Willingness and ability to work in a rigorous, diverse and often demanding work environment
• May be required to be temporarily reassigned to other communities as operationally required
• Willingness and ability to perform on call duties, work after hours, and on weekends as required
• Willingness and ability to complete mandatory education/training relevant to the position
• Current valid registration as a Registered Nurse in the extended class, and a member in good standing in the province where the position is located.
• Important Note: Candidates must meet and maintain the Conditions of Employment throughout their employment.

Asset Experience

• Recent* and significant** experience providing Community Health or Primary Care nursing services in one or more of the following areas:
  • Chronic Disease Management (including Mental Health or Addictions)
  • Pediatrics

*Recent is defined as within the last five years

**Significant is defined as at least two years experience with the candidate performing complex activities related to this task in a wide variety of situations.

• Experience in working with First Nations communities
  
  
• Experience in developing policies, procedures and directives
  
  
• Experience in integrating the Nurse Practitioner role into an existing health delivery system
  
  
• Experience as program or project leader in delivery of health services.

Abilities
