Intent of the process

A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates will be established to staff indeterminate or specified period, similar or identical positions at Indigenous Services Canada, Regional Delivery Sector with various tenures, locations, and/or linguistic profiles.

 

 

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

 

Occupational Certification

  • Eligibility* for registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in a province or territory of Canada.

*Eligibility is defined as a candidate having met all academic and occupational requirements, including those with respect to degrees, examinations, and experience, without having to have obtained or maintained actual registration, certification or membership in a professional association.

 

Essential Experience

  • Recent and significant* experience providing healthcare services as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) applying basic nursing principles, techniques, and procedures.

*Recent and significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with full-time performance of duties for a minimum period of 1 year within the last 3 years.

  • Valid driver's license or personal mobility to a degree normally associated with the possession of a driver's license
  • Medical Clearance
    1. PRE-PLACEMENT: Category 3 health evaluation*
    2. PERIODIC: Category 3 health evaluation according to the schedule outlined in Section I of the Occupational Health Evaluation Standard for “ISC Nurses Assigned to Isolated Posts in Northern First Nations Communities”
    3. For persons proposed for relocation to an isolated post/remote location and who have dependents: a valid Category 1 medical clearance for their dependent(s) in accordance with section 4.2 of the Isolated Post and Government Housing Directive and the Occupational Health Evaluation Guide Schedule for “Isolated and Remote, including dependents.”
    4. For persons proposed for relocation to an isolated post/remote location and who have dependents: consent to their dependent(s) to undertake a Category 1 periodic health evaluation in accordance with the Occupational Health Evaluation Guide Schedule for “Isolated and Remote, including dependents.”

* This position requires a successful pre-placement Category- 3 health evaluation. Exceptionally, due to the urgent need to maintain staffing levels in nursing stations, a temporary preplacement Category 1 Personal Health Declaration evaluation may be accepted. In this case, employees will be asked to complete a Category 3 Health Evaluation within twelve (12) months of hire to ensure their compliance with the Occupational Health Evaluation Standard.

  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently in small aircraft, off-road vehicles, and by boat in varied weather conditions to communities in remote and isolated areas
  • Willingness and ability to be temporarily reassigned to other communities as operationally required
  • Willingness and ability to perform on-call duties, work after hours, and on weekends as required
  • Willingness and ability to complete mandatory education/training relevant to the position, including cultural learning and nursing in-services required for this role
  • Successful completion of a comprehensive orientation program including the effective demonstration of the nursing competencies required for working autonomously within a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)/Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) legislated scope of practice in a remote and isolated post, during the probation period or other duration determined by the region.
  • Current valid registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) and a member in good standing in the province where the position is located. No history of license suspensions or restrictions with any professional regulatory organizations and no current or outstanding remedial action/strategy required by any regulatory body.
