Registered Nurse, Community Health
Community Health Nurses deliver comprehensive nursing services that include in-depth nursing knowledge, skills, clinical expertise and advanced judgment through consultation, clinical practice, leadership, and facilitate knowledge transfer through health promotion and disease prevention.
Registered Nurse, Public Health
Public Health Nurses develop and deliver comprehensive health programs that include promoting, protecting and preserving the health of First Nations peoples on reserve. Health care programs are designed in partnership with community members and leaders to promote environments that support good health.
Registered Nurse, Charge Nurse
Charge Nurses promote positive relationships within the interdisciplinary clinical team and community, coordinating and supervising care delivery, providing clinical guidance and supporting the management and administration of the clinic or health centre. They play a key role in the day-to-day operations of the nursing station or health centre while providing culturally safe and quality patient care.
Nurse Practitioners deliver comprehensive primary health care services to clients at every stage of life that may include autonomous diagnosis and illness treatment, ordering and interpreting tests, prescribing medications and performing minor medical procedures. They educate clients and their families about healthy living, disease prevention and managing illness, while incorporating new knowledge into their practice.
Registered Practical Nurse - HS-PHS-07 (Ontario Only)
Registered Practical Nurses deliver comprehensive community health nursing services to remote and/or isolated First Nations communities within Ontario. They provide in-depth nursing knowledge, skills, clinical expertise and advanced judgment through consultation, clinical practice, leadership, and facilitate knowledge transfer through health promotion and disease prevention.
Salary Ranges:
- NU-CHN-02 to 04 - National Rates of Pay as per the Health Services (SH) Collective Agreement
- $96,747 - $148,590* (per annum inclusive of applicable allowances)
or
- $80,948 - $98,114 Base annual salary (plus applicable allowances).
- HS-PHS-07: National Rates of Pay as per the Operational (SV) Collective Agreement
- $36.81 to $40.02/hour
*NB: Salary and applicable allowances will be prorated based on scheduled work hours and may vary depending on position and work location.

Applicable allowances may include:
*NB: Nurse Practitioners are not eligible for the Expanded Professional Role Allowance when in receipt of the Nurse Practitioner Allowance.
** NOTE: Recruitment allowance will be paid in two installments (first in the month of hire $$6750 and after 12 months -$9,750 for total of $16,500. For part-time employees, the amounts are prorated.
***The increase in R&R allowances will take effect starting September 1, 2022, and continue through to March 31, 2025, or when a new collective agreement is reached—whichever comes first. It will be provided to both full- and part-time ISC nurses delivering critical services in remote and isolated First Nations communities in accordance with the terms of the agreement.
Locations:
- Remote and/or isolated First Nations communities in northern Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and Quebec.
Rotations:
- Travel / outpost nursing rotations may vary and will include a combination of days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
- Common rotations in Ontario*, Manitoba and Alberta may include:
- 2 weeks on/ 2 weeks off,
- 3 weeks on/ 3 weeks off,
- 4 weeks on, 4 weeks off.
- Rotations in Quebec are: 16 days on, 12 days off.
- *Rotations in Ontario are 4 weeks on/4 weeks off for the first year of employment (Minimum).
Citizenship/permanent residency:
- Persons residing in Canada and Canadian citizens residing abroad.

Nursing Students and Recent Graduates Opportunities
Student Loan Forgiveness
The Government of Canada offers Canada Student Loan forgiveness to eligible family doctors, residents in family medicine, nurse practitioners, and nurses who work in under-served rural or remote communities that lack the primary health care they need. This change will help more Canadians get the health care they deserve. Eligible nurses and nurse practitioners could receive up to $20,000 in Canada Student Loan forgiveness over a maximum of five years ($4,000 per year).

Nurse Development Program
If you are a third/fourth year student or recent graduate with a degree in nursing from a recognized post-secondary institution, you may be eligible for the Nurse Development Program. This program is regionally led and learning plans are individually tailored to identify and develop required competencies to work in primary care settings. Program development is handled in a step-by-step process. This will help ensure that you are fully prepared to work independently and meet the needs of the community.
